Lucky As You Like

I am incredibly lucky, are you?

I have never won the lottery, a raffle, or even the Tombola at the kids’ school Summer Fair, and that was rigged so that everyone, or almost everyone, won a prize.

Although I have hosted a few dozen award ceremonies, I have picked up exactly zero awards for my work in training, speaking, coaching and writing, the things I have done most of my life, to the very best of my ability.

I have cracked open too many oyster shells to count, yet never discovered a perfectly formed pearl, or any type of pearl, despite it being a childhood recurring dream. Similarly, I have walked along so many beaches, and not ever landed upon a washed up bottle, with a message, nor ever found a treasure map, so obviously have found no treasure.

I do, though, wake up with a smile on my face, and I love the way the light shines just so through the branches of the trees, and I know the world looks brighter to me, like seeing it in clear air.

I love to talk and write about motivation, and other things that matter to me, and that’s what I’ve done most of my life, so far, and maybe it’s helped some.

My everyday challenge of loving everyone continues to consume me, no matter how many times I fail, I keep on trying.

So, I am lucky, incredibly so, for all the reasons I’ve stated, and the 146 other reasons I wrote on my Lucky List, thinking about this piece. And, I’ve just remembered, I have a lucky silver dollar, a lucky card, the stub of a Blackwing pencil, some sherbet lemons, and I once found a four leaf clover, and may even still have it.

Dear Reader, if you do not have a Lucky List, may I humbly suggest, for your own well being and happiness, and luck, buy a notepad or find a scrap of paper, pick up a pencil, and start one.
